Applying Functions with Sums of Products: The case/constr Trick and When It Actually Pays
Plutus V3 lets you call a function through a case expression instead of nested applies, spending fewer execution units. Every major Cardano compiler now does it above two arguments. But that threshold is only half the calculation: the encoding is also bigger below seven arguments, and measurement shows five sites in six never repeat — so the decision needs a profile, not a rule of thumb.
